My hometown is Rosenberg, Tx which is located in Ft. Bend County 28 miles southwest of downtown Houston. Rosenberg was settled around 1823 by Stephen F. Austin's Old Three Hundred. By the mid 1860's Houston was the leading railroad center in Texas. In 1873 a group of Galveston financiers led by Swiss immigrant Henry von Rosenberg decided to build the Gulf Colorado & Santa Fe Railroad in order to circumvent the Houston route but the county seat of Richmond refused them right-of-way. So, in 1880, the railroad established a station three miles to the west of Richmond at the crossroads of the GC&SF and the Galveston, Harrisburg & San Antonio Railroads. In 1881 Italian investor Joseph Telfener moved to the area & built the New York, Texas & Mexican Railway which went to Victoria. Because the track was laid mainly by Italians, it soon became known as "The Macaroni Line". In 1883 the GC&SF bought & platted 200 acres with a central square between the Brazos River & the railroad centered at what is now 3rd Street & the town was born. It was named after Henry Rosenberg, president of the GC&SF. Rosenberg is not, however, considered the "Father of Rosenberg". that moniker goes to R.T. Mulcahy who raised money for the first school & for 40 years promoted businesses & government. By the 1940's Rosenberg was known as "The Hub of The Gulf Coast".
