The Great Smoky Mountains
The Great Smoky Mountains are a subrange of the Appalachian Mountains along the Tennessee North Carolina border. At 187,000 acres it is the largest old growth forest east of the Mississippi & the beautiful blue-green Southern Appalachian spruce-fir tree forest that carpets it's contours is the largest of it's kind. The Smoky Mountains gets its name from a natural blue fog that hangs over the range & can appear as large smoke plumes from a distance. I actually saw these plumes & they were really cool but unfortunately I was driving & there was no way to pull over to take a picture.
